Dear Community Friends,

We would like to introduce ourselves to you as a newly organized volunteer members of the Lackawaxen Township Fire Commission. We have been in existence since April, 2009.  We are most proud of our four volunteer fire departments and want to assist them in providing the safest environment for the members of our community.

This letter of introduction is to acquaint you with us, inform you of our meetings and provide you with our website for interactive communication with us. More than any other state, Pennsylvania has over 2400 volunteer fire departments. While our tradition of volunteerism is strong, we face many external challenges.  These challenges include lack of human and financial resources. This may be an early warning sign faced by many other states.  We may be headed toward an increase in taxes to fund paid fire Fighters.

We are striving hard to prevent this and to still maintain the excellent volunteers that we now have. A regionalization of our fire departments has been recognized by a joint-committee of the Pennsylvania General Assembly in Harrisburg and our Lackawaxen Township Supervisors as a good method of combining resources, while still allowing the independent existence of our four volunteer fire departments.

This goal of our continued independence may be further emphasized by our Mission and Vision Statements (see below). We all look forward to your help in assisting us to achieve our goals and make our township the safest possible. Please keep current on our activities and needs by visiting our website at www.LTFireCom.com. Our meeting dates are posted there. All residents of our township are welcome to attend our meetings. We are posting interactive links where you can give us your input and share with us your capabilities and capacities with which you can serve as a volunteer. We look forward to hearing from you.

Yours in Safety and Protection,
The Members of the Lackawaxen Township Fire Commission

James Jennings
Commission Chairman
